On-site hard drive & SSD destruction, at scale

Secure data destruction for a data center or ITAD operation means destroying hard drives and SSDs on-site, at the volume you generate. That's what operations come to Allegheny Shredders for: data destruction equipment that keeps up with real volume. Whether you're running inside a shared hall or a high-throughput service line, we size the machine to your job.

Media in motion is media at risk

Every drive that leaves the rack intact is a drive in motion. On-site destruction closes the custody gap between the rack and the loading dock — the media is reduced to an unrecoverable particle before it ever moves.

Matched to HDD, SSD and volume

SelecShred™ takes both HDD and SSD in a split-feed pass — sized from compact to high-capacity — with high-throughput hard-drive lines and the Particle Cut line for bulk e-scrap.

Built to the standard you destroy to

We build to recognized destruction standards — NIST SP 800-88 and DIN 66399 among them — and we're an i-SIGMA Corporate Partner with Made-in-USA machines. We don't claim certifications we don't hold; tell us the standard your ITAD program works to and we'll confirm exactly how a machine meets it.

Destruction standards

We build to recognized standards including NIST SP 800-88 and DIN 66399. Tell us the standard and level you work to and we'll confirm the configuration.

NIST SP 800-88

The US guidelines for media sanitization. They set out three methods: Clear, Purge and Destroy. Shredding is a Destroy method, the highest of the three.

DIN 66399

The international standard that grades shred size into security levels, separately for each type of material. The media on this page fall under class O / T / H / E.

  • P · paper, film and printing forms
  • O · optical media — CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray
  • T · magnetic media — data tape, floppy disks, ID cards
  • H · hard drives
  • E · electronic media — SSDs, USB sticks, memory cards

On a high-volume line, downtime is the cost that matters. Wear parts, service and support come direct from the manufacturer — so you can keep the line moving and cost per drive down.

Data center & ITAD questions

Do you destroy SSDs as well as hard drives?

Yes. SelecShred™ takes both in one split-feed pass — hard drives to a 1-1/2″ (38.1 mm) strip and solid-state to a 3/16″ × 3/8″ (4.8 × 9.5 mm) cross-cut. Weighing destruction methods? See our degausser vs shredder guide.

Can you do on-site hard drive destruction inside a data hall?

Yes — in-suite and rack-format options destroy drives and media where they sit, so nothing leaves your control. We'll size it to the space and the volume.

What equipment do you need for secure data destruction on-site?

A shredder matched to your media and volume. Hard drive shredders take hard drives; SelecShred™ takes hard drives and SSDs in one pass; the Particle Cut line takes mixed e-scrap in bulk. Conveyors and handling equipment can be added around the shredder.

How much volume can you handle?

From a compact unit up to continuous-duty lines that sustain a full hall or service floor all shift. Tell us drives per day and we'll match the model.

Which destruction standard do you meet?

We build to recognized standards including NIST SP 800-88 and DIN 66399. Tell us the standard you work to and we'll confirm how a given configuration meets it.
