PHI lives on more than paper

Records and drives fall under HIPAA retention and privacy rules — but so do the pill bottles and packaging that carry patient labels. Bring HIPAA destruction in-house — destroy Personal Health Information (PHI) wherever it lives, and recycle the plastics instead of paying to dispose of them.

Patient data hides in more than the chart

A paper shredder handles the records, but PHI also rides on pill bottles, labelled packaging, drives and devices — and a mishandled label is a breach just like a mishandled file. Destroy it wherever it lives, to a secure particle, on your own site.

Built for bottles, plastics and paper

Shredders for PHI-labeled pill bottles and packaging, the 20-Series for plastics and paper at volume, and SelecShred™ for drives and media.

Built to help you meet your destruction policy

HIPAA requires PHI to be rendered unreadable and unrecoverable — it doesn't certify a particular machine. So we focus on what the equipment controls: destroying PHI on paper, packaging, drives and media to a secure particle, on your own site, under your control. We're an i-SIGMA Corporate Partner with Made-in-USA machines; tell us the policy you work to and we'll confirm how a machine meets it.

Destruction standards

We build to recognized standards including NIST SP 800-88 and DIN 66399. Tell us the standard and level you work to and we'll confirm the configuration.

NIST SP 800-88

The US guidelines for media sanitization. They set out three methods: Clear, Purge and Destroy. Shredding is a Destroy method, the highest of the three.

DIN 66399

The international standard that grades shred size into security levels, separately for each type of material. The media on this page fall under class P / H / E.

  • P · paper, film and printing forms
  • O · optical media — CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray
  • T · magnetic media — data tape, floppy disks, ID cards
  • H · hard drives
  • E · electronic media — SSDs, USB sticks, memory cards

Healthcare questions

Can you destroy PHI-labeled pill bottles and packaging?

Yes. Tell us your volume and we'll confirm the machine for the bottles, labels and packaging a paper shredder can't take.

Does this help us meet HIPAA?

HIPAA requires PHI to be destroyed so it's unreadable and unrecoverable; it doesn't certify equipment. Our machines destroy PHI on paper, packaging, drives and media to a secure particle on your site — tell us your policy and we'll confirm how a machine meets it.

Can you destroy medical records and medical waste on-site?

Yes — a paper line handles medical records held under retention, and the shredders take labelled packaging and medical waste down to a secure particle on your own site.

Can one operation handle records, drives and plastics?

Often yes, with the right pairing — a shredder for bottles and packaging, a paper line for records, and SelecShred™ for drives and media. We'll match a line to your mix.

Can we recycle the shredded plastic instead of landfilling it?

Yes — sizing the output for recycling turns a disposal cost into recoverable material.
